Best Golf Speed Trainer: Rypstick vs. The Stack System vs. SuperSpeed Golf

If you’re like most golfers, you want to hit longer off the tee. Because let’s get real, longer drives are fun to hit and make the game a lot easier.

But what’s the best way to add speed? Is it investing $600 in a new driver? A custom club fitting? More golf lessons?

While those can help, the easiest way to add distance is with speed training. Today, I'll compare the big three - Rypstick, SuperSpeed and The Stack System - to see which is the best golf speed trainer.

What is the Best Golf Speed Trainer to Gain Distance?

Despite unlimited swing videos, online lessons, and new equipment, golfers still have a big problem - lack of distance. Studies have shown that the average male golfer has a 93 mph swing speed and only average 215–225 yards off the tee (depending on which study you read).

However, look at the data behind lower handicaps and their average driving distance according to Arccos Golf:

  • 10.0 - 14.9 handicap: 223 yards
  • 5.0 - 9.9 handicap: 234 yards
  • Scratch Golfer: 259 yards
  • LPGA Tour: 223 yards (96 mph clubhead speed)
  • PGA Tour:  282 yards (115 mph clubhead speed)

Needless to say, we have to find ways to add more speed. Which is where speed trainers come in…

Why Speed Training Matters

When you can learn how to increase your clubhead speed, your game will change fast.

As Rypstick noted on their website, “For every MPH of added clubhead speed, you’ll gain 3 yards of extra distance. By working the Rypstick into your training routine for just 10 minutes a day, 3x per week, you could see 15–25 yards added to your driving distance.”

Other studies put it closer to two yards longer distance for every extra mile per hour. Regardless, if you can add 10 mph to your swing, you'll get 20-30 more yards. Which will leave you shorter approach shots and hopefully more greens in regulation.

But the speed training world is busy with new equipment, apps, and training aids coming out regularly. I've tested each of the big three and want to share the pros/cons to determine the best golf speed trainer.

SuperSpeed Golf

I started speed training in 2020 (thanks Bryson) with SuperSpeed Golf. They were the OG in speed training and pretty quickly found success.

SuperSpeed Golf is widely regarded as one of the most trusted speed training programs in the golf world, used by both amateur and professional players. The set comes with three weighted clubs (light, medium, and heavy) and online training to get started.

The best word for this speed trainer is simplicity—no need for weight adjustments. However, having three clubs can make it bulkier to transport, and training sessions may take longer as you rotate through each weight.

Pros

  • Easy to get started.
  • Three weights to increase speed.
  • Different programs for all types of golfers.

Cons

  • No adjustable weights.
  • Higher time commitment as you rotate through each club.
  • Takes up too much space in your car or golf locker. Nearly impossible to travel with all three.

The Stack System

The second golf speed trainer I used was the Stack System. After watching Matthew Fitzpatrick rave about the device after his 2022 U.S. Open win, I figured I'd give it a shot.

The Stack combines precision, data-driven customization with cutting-edge app technology to maximize swing speed gains. It's designed for serious golfers and professionals, not a beginner or casual golfer.

The Stack is one club that is about the length of a 7-iron, comes with a weight kit, and the mobile app. One thing I did like is that it offers sophisticated, tailored feedback through its app. This is no cookie cutter approach, as the program is designed for every golfer.

However, it's a lot for most golfers and somewhat of a steep learning curve. Not to mention the steep price tag.

Pros

  • Tons of different trainings.
  • Grit score to keep you accountable.
  • Used by elite players and tour professionals.
  • Emphasis on swing mechanics and technical development.
  • The app can help with more than just speed training like putting drills.

Cons

  • Shorter than a driver.
  • Complicated for beginners.
  • Paid subscription to the app after the first year.
  • Expensive - the highest priced golf speed trainer.

Rypstick

The final speed trainer I used was Rypstick and as you'll read below, I definitely saved the best for last.

Rypstick is a versatile swing speed trainer designed for golfers who want a single, all-in-one club to increase power and accuracy. With adjustable weights, it allows you to fine-tune resistance, making it suitable for different strength levels and progress stages.

Like the other speed trainers, it has a mobile app which offer a variety of drills and exercises that focus not just on swing speed, but also on consistency. I like how easy it to use above all else and extremely convenient.

After testing all three, I found Rypstick to be the easiest to stay consistent with. Keep reading to learn seven compelling reasons why it is the best golf speed trainer.

Pros

  • Easy to use.
  • Only one stick.
  • Length of a driver.
  • Compact, indoor version available.
  • Different sizes for all types of golfers.
  • Training app offers video guidance, tips, and progress tracking.

Cons

  • Slightly higher investment than SuperSpeed Golf.
  • Requires a speed radar or launch monitor to measure progress.

Why Rypstick is the Best Speed Trainer

After testing each of them for roughly six months, here is why I think Rypstick is the best speed trainer in the game.

1. Easy to Use

First things first - Rypstick is easier to use than The Stack or SuperSpeed Golf. It’s one stick which makes it easy to carry in your bag at all times, unlike SuperSpeed which has three weighted sticks.

But the Stack System only has one stick too, so why do I think Rypstick is easier to use? The protocols and the weights themselves. It’s a lot easier to change the weights of Rypstick vs. The Stack System.

Plus, you can download the free RYP app and follow their protocol with ease.

Even when I don’t do formal speed training sessions, I like to use the Rypstick before the round as a warm-up tool. I’ve found it helps with my tempo and gets my body loosened up as I hit golf balls at the driving range.

2. Length of a Driver

The second reason I think Rypstick is more beneficial is that it’s the length of a driver. While the Stack System is 42 inches, closer to a 7-iron.

I’ve never quite understood why The Stack is so much shorter than a standard length driver. The goal of speed training is to increase driving distance, not so much with irons. It makes more sense to train with a club that is the same length as your driver for an easy transition to hitting your club.

3. Sizes For All Types of Golfers

The third reason Rypstick is different from its competitors is the different options for all types of golfers. They have a mens (45”), ladies (44”), senior (44”, and juniors (41”) sizing.

Plus, they also have an indoor 38-inch choice too, which is a great offseason training aid. I've had one of my mental golf coaching students get started with Rypstick in his early 50s and added nearly 20 mph to his swing! Proving that you're never too old to get started.

4. One of a Kind Design

The design of the Rypstick is one of a kind due to two main factors; a 60-gram counterweight and unique sound to time your release

Let’s start with the 60-gram counterweight. Speed training is meant to overload your body with the weighted clubs, however it’s physically demanding as well.

When I interviewed the creator, he said they even hired an aerospace engineer to add a unique sound. This helps you time your release better and alleviate any strain on your wrists.

5. Incredibly Affordable

As you know, golf is not a cheap game with tee times, equipment, lessons, and clubs. Which is why I want you to get the best deal out there.

Here are the prices of each speed trainer:

  • Rypstick - $199
  • SuperSpeed Golf - $149
  • The Stack System - $299

While Rypstick is slightly more than SuperSpeed, it’s still dollar for dollar the best value. Since it’s only one stick, you're much more likely to keep it in your bag and use it regularly. Not to mention the other benefits listed in this article.

Plus, when you use the code “WICKEDSMART” you’ll save 10% on your investment.

6. Free Swing Analysis and Drills

Another reason you can’t beat Rypstick is the free swing analysis from the creator, Dr. Luke Benoit himself. Not only is he the creator of this awesome speed trainer, he is the #1 ranked coach in Minnesota, plus the 12X “Best Young Teacher” from Golf Digest.

I’ve worked with Dr. Luke since early 2024 and his tips have had a huge impact on my game. When you invest with Rypstick, you get a free swing analysis from him to make sure your swing is headed in the right direction.

Not to mention, the Rypstick comes with drills alongside their protocol to help with various aspects of your game.

7. Insane 40-Day Guarantee

The final reason to consider Rypstick is the incredible guarantee. They guarantee results with their 40-day guarantee.

But chances are you will see results a lot sooner if you follow the protocol. All it takes is 15–25 minutes, 2-3X a week, to start reaping the rewards of more speed.

Closing Thoughts

If you want to play wicked smart golf, you need to add speed so you can hit it longer off the tee. Don’t forget, longer drivers are directly correlated with being lower handicap golfers.

While there are a lot of ways to speed train, I think speed training is the best bang for your buck.

You don’t need to hit endless golf balls on the range, can add or maintain speed year round, and doesn’t require spending tons of time in the gym. About an hour a week and you can start adding speed wicked fast.

There’s no doubt Rypstick is the best golf speed trainer and can help you add distance fast. Make sure to use the code “WICKEDSMART” at checkout to save 10% off your investment.
