Episode #192: 5 Reasons to be Wildly Grateful for Golf
Learn five reasons why you should be wicked grateful for golf. Also, enjoy this excerpt from the first lesson in my book, Wicked Smart Golf.
Play golf with an attitude of gratitude.
Here’s how; be grateful that you woke up today and made it safely to the golf course. That you got to play with friends or family (or had the chance to meet new people). Be grateful that your body allows you to swing a heavy, awkward club at high speeds to chase a golf ball all over the course.
Be grateful for everything in your life—on or off the golf course.
I know it sounds corny, but it’s true. It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day activities of life. We don't step back and appreciate all that we have, including the ability to play the greatest sport ever.
This single mindset shift can change how you play on the golf course. It can make your good days great and make the bad days a lot more enjoyable (but let’s get real, there are no truly bad days on the golf course).
When you play with an attitude of gratitude, you learn to accept bad shots and appreciate good shots. You learn to…
- Swing with more freedom and fewer expectations.
- Enjoy the moment and not stress over a short putt you missed.
- Cherish the memories that golf allows you to create with incredible people.
For 99.9% of the golf population, it’s a game and most of us aren’t playing for our livelihood. Remember that when you hit a bad shot, it doesn’t mean you can’t pay the rent and feed your family.
Too many golfers put so much pressure on themselves to hit perfect golf shots, despite working a full-time job and not practicing enough, somehow thinking that expectations will somehow make you play better (newsflash—expectations like this will never help your score). As Tony Robbins said, “Trade your expectations for appreciation and the world changes instantly.”
You can’t control a lot in golf, but you can control your attitude. The sooner you appreciate every time you’re on the golf course, the more you will invite greatness into your game.
