Rypstick vs. The Stack System: Who Wins The Distance Debate?

Are you looking to add more distance and increase your swing speed? If so, speed training is one of the fastest and most effective ways to make it happen.

With so many options out there, finding the best golf speed trainer can feel overwhelming. But after writing over 3,000,000 words about golf and equipment since 2017—and testing nearly every speed trainer available—I’m here to simplify the process.

Today, I’ll dive into two of the most popular speed trainers in golf: Rypstick and The Stack System. Both are game-changing tools for adding speed, but there’s a clear winner to help you play better golf fast.

Rypstick vs. The Stack System

Before diving into the comparison, it’s important to understand the value of speed training and why it’s become a must for golfers of all skill levels. Speed is a direct path to lower scores and a reduced handicap. How, you might ask?

Research shows that every additional 1 mph of swing speed translates to 2–3 extra yards off the tee. Whether you’re trying to keep up with the long hitters in your group or just want to make the game easier for yourself, adding speed is a no-brainer.

Speed training involves specialized tools and techniques to help you swing faster by conditioning both your body and nervous system. While there are ways to increase your speed without a trainer, they typically take a lot longer (but I share my strategies inside my latest book, Wicked Smart Golf II: The Blueprint to Breaking 80 Consistently).

Now, let’s take a closer look at Rypstick and The Stack System to see which one is right for you.

The Stack System

After trying out SuperSpeed Golf, I next evaluated The Stack System. This speed trainer gained massive popularity when Matt Fitzpatrick credited it as a key factor in his 2022 U.S. Open victory. This tool, developed with insights from biomechanical experts, is a data-driven approach to speed training.

The Stack System is designed to personalize your training regimen, helping you optimize your swing speed through precise weight adjustments and a detailed app interface. The system includes a shorter training club (41.5 inches, unlike a driver’s length) and an intuitive companion app that tracks your progress.

The app adjusts your program based on real-time data, ensuring that you’re training efficiently and effectively. It’s a high-tech, personalized tool for golfers who want a structured and measurable approach to gaining speed. As you train, it logs your data and creates new plans.

Pros

  • Data-Driven Personalization: The app customizes your training based on your swing speed and progress, providing a tailored experience.
  • Precise Weight Adjustments: With five weights, it allows for more fine-tuned overspeed training compared to simpler systems.
  • Comprehensive App Integration: Tracks your progress, adjusts training protocols, and offers advanced analytics.

Cons

  • High Cost: It’s the most expensive speed trainer on the market, making it less accessible for budget-conscious golfers. Plus, you’ll need to spend more money on a launch monitor or speed radar to track your progress, too.
  • Shorter Length: The 41.5-inch length differs from a standard driver (three or so inches shorter), which can make transitioning to your actual driver slightly less seamless.
  • Complexity: The app and advanced features can be overwhelming for less tech-savvy users or those seeking simplicity.

Overall, I liked The Stack System when I used it but found myself not wanting to train as much due to the setup and tech side. It also requires a subscription to keep your app active and be able to use all the features.

Rypstick

After trying out SuperSpeed Golf in 2022, then the Stack System in 2023, I tried out Rypstick in 2024. Pretty quickly I loved it and found it to be the easiest to use. Unlike Superspeed Golf, it's only one stick so you can keep it in your bag at all times (check out my full review of Rypstick vs. SuperSpeed too).

Rypstick’s results speak for themselves, with thousands of golfers seeing dramatic gains in swing speed and distance in just a few weeks. One of my podcast listeners, Brian, added 15 mph with Rypstick in a few months, which helped him break 80 for the first time. Did I mention that he’s in his 50s, too?

Plus, you also get a free swing analysis from the creator, Dr. Luke Benoit, who’s helped my game and been a 2x guest on my show. He’s also the #1 rated coach in Minnesota by Golf Digest, so you can learn what part of your swing needs the most improvement for more speed.

Pros

  • Affordable: Rypstick delivers exceptional value, making it accessible to a wide range of golfers without sacrificing results.
  • Ease of Use: The simple design and intuitive training protocols mean you can start speed training right away, without a steep learning curve like the Stack System.
  • Driver-Length Design: The club’s length mirrors a standard driver, making the transition to your actual clubs seamless and why I think it’s the best option available.
  • Adjustable Weights: Rypstick’s three interchangeable weights (light, medium, and heavy) let you tailor your training for maximum effectiveness unlike SuperSpeed which has fixed weights.
  • Multiple Sizes: Available in different sizes for men, women, juniors, and seniors, ensuring a perfect fit for every golfer.
  • Insane Guarantee: The 40-day money-back guarantee ensures you can try it risk-free—and see noticeable gains quickly.

Cons

  • Less Advanced Analytics: While it doesn’t have the same data-driven approach as The Stack System, its simplicity is a key advantage for many golfers.
  • The App Does Cost After One Year: You get the first year free with your purchase, but there is a charge after the initial period.

The Stack System is definitely more advanced than other speed trainers, but I’m not sure that more is always better. If you are super detail oriented and/or better than a scratch golfer, this might be the better option. However, if you’re someone who just wants a simple approach to speed training and isn’t a “golf nerd” I think there is a better option.

The Winner: Rypstick Speed Trainer

Rypstick is the clear winner. It’s affordable, easy to use, and designed for all skill levels, making it the most accessible option on the market. I love keeping it in my bag for speed training sessions and also a great warm up tool.

Unlike more complex systems, Rypstick offers a straightforward approach that delivers proven results without requiring advanced tech or a steep learning curve. Its driver-length design, adjustable weights, and multiple size options make it versatile for any golfer.

Plus, with their 40-day money-back guarantee, you can try it risk-free and start seeing real gains in swing speed and distance almost immediately. For most golfers, Rypstick is the perfect blend of simplicity, effectiveness, and value.

Closing Thoughts

If you’re serious about playing better golf, you need to start speed training. Don’t forget, longer drivers are directly correlated with longer driving distances. When you learn how to hit your driver longer, golf gets so much easier!

Rypstick is one of the most versatile and user-friendly speed trainers available, making it the ideal choice for the majority of amateur golfers. Train with it 3x a week for about 20 minutes a day to watch your game transform in 8–12 weeks.
